About Me

My name is Karla Becerra and I recently attained my Multiple Subject Credential with a Bilingual Authorization. I completed my undergraduate studies here at Cal Poly Pomona and graduated with a Liberal Studies degree. I went to elementary school is East Los Angeles for a couple of years and finished the rest of my schooling in the Baldwin Park Unified School District. I really enjoy hiking and trying out different places to eat with friends!

As far as my experiences with technology, I have very limited. I know the basic programs that you find in a computer, but have never worked with programs that are I was introduced to today in this class and in 571, which is quite nerve racking. I was introduced to some technology such as iMovie in a prerequisite course a couple of years back, but other than that, I have not taken any other courses related to technology.  I recently got a smartphone, which sounds crazy, but it has been very fun to access current events, social sites, and many other things in a much quicker way. I like the fact that technology could be integrated in various parts of a classroom and I find it could be a great tool for communication in/out of the classroom.

I decided to start on a Masters of Educational Multimedia because I feel it could help me prepare to be a well rounded teacher. I recently got my multiple subject teaching credential with a bilingual authorization and I strongly believe this added degree could help me get a job in the near future. The use of technology has increased dramatically over the past several years and I feel this degree will help me teach kids with up-to-date resources, as well as use the best resources to communicate with parents and other professionals. I would like to start teaching in the next couple of years and be able to apply what I learn throughout this program. Considering the amount of technology now used in/out of the classroom, I foresee my education being a great investment. Since I am not a "techie" at all, I hope the program can help me understand and use different resources that can be used as an educator in an elementary setting.

  1. I just finished the multiple subject credential program this summer. I believe also my obtaining our Masters in Educational Multimedia it is going to make us a well rounded teacher. I know of teachers right now going to workshops after school and have to go to planning days to help them with their technology skills. As for us we won't have to attend those because we will have the skill and background of the technology which will lead us to plan lessons, and grade papers.

    1. It is nice to know that another person is on the same boat! There are many workshops related to technology out there. I do hope to feel confident with the use of simple and difficult technology that is applicable in an elementary setting.

  2. Hello Karla! I, too, share your feelings of anxiety and nervousness especially after being introduced to the programs we will be using in these classes! Just hearing about all this stuff makes me feel helpless and trapped haha. I am hoping that as we go through the courses, we will be more and more comfortable with technology. We might just feel overwhelmed, but I think if we take a deep breath and bother Belen, then we will be ok! We shall learn together!!!

    1. You are both more than welcome to bother me, although after the third or fourth week I'm sure I'll be on the same boat as you!

    2. After reading the chapters, I am not sure whether I feel better or worse! There is just so much that I don't know and that is scary. Belen, you will be the go to person..apologies in advance. Were gonna owe you dinner by the end of the quarter!

  3. Hi Karla! I agree that technology is integrated all around us and, with time, most classrooms will be well equipped with all the technological advances that will help them succeed in the future (it's already begun with the Smarter Balance Test and EdModo). The skills we learn now will enable us to be ready for whatever technological challenges we are faced with in our classrooms!
